Just pick ONE!
That’s the “secret” to simplifying your life and freeing you to focus on what you really want.
Avoid “paralysis by analysis” by choosing one method and sticking with it for a while.
I figured this out after getting fed up with all the different kinds of plastic food containers in my kitchen. I hated putting food into one type, then not being able to find the lid to match, then having to dig around a mess of containers to find the right size and it’s corresponding lid. GRRR! ENOUGH, DANGIT!
So I went through and got rid of all the different kinds except one set – four container sizes, two lid sizes. Now I know I always have lids and containers that match.
A stupid example, I know, but it made a difference for me. Now I don’t even have to think about which container to use, and I can enjoy cooking more.
It works the same in life as it does in my kitchen. When you’re constantly juggling five different ways to do one thing, just making the choice to do it is exhausting. Knowing you have to make five decisions to accomplish a simple task wears out your decision-making power faster than GPS navigation drains your phone battery.
So keep it simple by just picking one way to do something and sticking with it. Making your decisions in advance allows simple choices to be made automatically, freeing your decision-making power for more important problems – like what to do with all the extra time you’ll have now that you’re not digging around for a way to store your leftovers.
What ways have you implemented the power of ONE in your life so you can focus on what matters to you?
Until next time,
